Roatan, Honduras – Marvin Rosales was blinded in one eye 20 years ago while cutting open a coconut. He and his wife Fannie have three sons, Ryan (17), Eduardo (14) and Marvin, Jr. (5). The Rosales family of five lived in a one-room storage shed where Marvin Rosales worked as groundskeeper. They purchased a piece of land on the steep side of a mountain, and then waited for four years to be accepted through the Dwellings home building program.
John and Priscilla Cadwell, Dave and Laura Jepsen, and others from the Tri-Cities volunteered in Roatan to build the Dwellings home for the Rosales family in April. The 800 square-foot home has two bedrooms, one bath and a combo living and kitchen space. A large deck overlooks the mountainside below and has an ocean view.
Bill DeMedio made a significant donation to the endeavor, and Dwellings was able to purchase the entire electrical system for the home from his contribution.
Marvin and Fannie worked alongside the volunteers nonstop, and their children worked just as hard when they weren’t in school. Marvin, Jr. turned five during the home build, and the volunteers celebrated with him with birthday cake.
