Cascade Frequently Asked Questions

Why are there no buttons or knobs on the Cascade base unit?

To improve efficiency, the Cascade was designed so that all functions are controlled through the Cascade software, therefore, no knobs and buttons are necessary.

How many amplifier channels are available?

The Cascade amplifier is available with 16 channels.

What is the number of inputs?
There are 32 inputs. The inputs are completely customizable when setting the system up for a monitoring session.

How many and what types of electrical stimulators are available?

The Cascade uses a unique approach to the stimulator. A splitter device, called the ES-5 has 4 high current and 1 low current output. An additional ES-5 can be daisy-chained to the first, thus doubling the stimulator capabilities.

What other stimulator options are available?
Auditory and visual stimulator options are available with the Cascade and now the Transcranial stimulator known as TCS-1.

What has Cadwell done to reduce noise problems in the OR?
Our exclusive (patent pending) design is the Amplifier Input Extender. This small, shielded device effectively moves the amplifier inputs closer to the electrode site and utilizes an exclusive shielded cable design that greatly reduces noise and the need for long electrode wires. Each extender has 8 inputs.

How does the Cascade deal with bovie noise in the OR?

We have developed an exclusive optional electrical detection device. The noise-generating device, such as a Bovie, is plugged in to the device and when the Bovie is activated, Cascade senses this and momentarily stops acquiring data, so the record is cleaner from the start.

Is video monitoring available with Cascade?

Yes, there is a video option available for use with a surgical microscope. This aids the tech in correlating events with procedures during the surgery.

What modes are available with Cascade?
A wide variety of modes that can be run simultaneously are available with Cascade: Multiple EP (AEP, VEP, SEP, MEP), EMG, Stimulated EMG and in the near future, EEG will be available.

What software platform is used with Cascade?

For the maximum in ease of use and flexibility, we designed Cascade's software in the Windows® environment. Anything that you would expect to find in a windows-based package can be found in Cascade's software. Copy, paste, resize or move windows on the fly, change set-ups instantly, ease of set using a minimum of keystrokes and mouse clicks.
